Kate’s Home Nursing Celebrates 30 Years of Caring for North Cotswolds Families

Kate’s Home Nursing, a much-loved local charity providing hospice care at home and bereavement and carer support, is proudly celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026.

Founded in 1996 and based in Bourton-on-the-Water, Kate’s Home Nursing has supported hundreds of patients and their families in the North Cotswolds, providing compassionate registered nursing care for those nearing the end of their lives who wish to remain at home, surrounded by the people who matter most to them.

Get involved!

As the charity marks this important milestone, supporters are being encouraged to get involved in a variety of ways throughout the year — from donating and fundraising, to hosting community events and attending special anniversary activities. Highlights of the charity’s events calendar include Open Gardens at Pasture Farm, Oddington (24 and 25 May) and Rockcliffe, Upper Slaughter (10 June and 8 July) who are both supporting Kate’s Home Nursing with sales of refreshments donated to the charity, and a Picnic on the Pitch with an Abba tribute band at Bourton Rovers Football Club on 8th August.

Helen Makaritis, CEO of Kate’s Home Nursing, said: “This anniversary is not only a chance to celebrate the incredible support we have received from our community over the last 30 years, but also an opportunity to look ahead. With rising demand for hospice at home care, we want to ensure Kate’s Home Nursing can continue supporting local families for many years to come.”

We want to be here for another 30 years

Like many hospices and hospice-at-home charities across the country, Kate’s Home Nursing is operating in a challenging funding environment. Nationally, most hospices are independent charities and typically receive only a proportion of their costs from statutory/NHS funding, with the remainder needing to be raised through charitable giving, fundraising and retail income. Recent analysis has highlighted increasing financial pressures across the hospice sector, with rising demand and costs contributing to widespread deficits.

Kate’s Home Nursing needs to raise around £700,000 each year through the generosity of supporters, local businesses, and income from fundraising events organised by its dedicated fundraising committee.” Helen Makaritis added: “Every donation, sponsorship, raffle prize and fundraiser helps ensure we can continue providing compassionate hospice care at home for local patients and families across the North Cotswolds, now and into the future.”

To mark the occasion, the charity has launched a dedicated 30th anniversary webpage, where supporters can find out how to take part in fundraising challenges, donate, host an event, or view upcoming events in the charity calendar.
